John Robert Yeats, Jr.

John R. Yeats, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Friday August 19, 2016.  John was born February 6, 1925 in Kirbyville, Texas.  He was a World War II Navy veteran and worked as a Mechanical Engineer for 39 years at Houston Lighting and Power Co.  He was active and dedicated to his Church and served in many capacities throughout the years.  John was also an avid gardener and photographer.  He excelled in growing African Violets and won several photography awards for photos of his African Violets and outdoor scenes.  He loved his family and enjoyed sharing life stories and spending time entertaining his grandchildren.

After his retirement, he and Sylvia traveled extensively throughout the United States and toured the Holy Land and Europe.

John is survived by his wife, Sylvia of 72 years; two sons John (Genoyce) and Barry (Joan), five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Friday, August 26, 2016, and a celebration of John’s life will be at 10:00am Saturday, August 27, 2016, all held at Niday Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Robert Hale, Joseph Rivera, Jeremy Yeats, Jeremy Hathway, Jay Rivera, and Shawn Hale.

In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
