Elizabeth Johnson

Elizabeth Anne Johnson was born in Austin, Texas on September 25, 1948.  Planet earth became a better place that day with the birth of our beloved Liz.  The oldest child of Malcolm Doyle and Joyce Pearl Wilkinson, her brother Jim and sister Martha rounded out the family in the years that followed. She graduated from Raymondville High School and continued her studies to become a registered nurse at Baptist Memorial Hospital – School of Nursing. After her move to Houston, she met the love of her life, William Kent Johnson, to whom she was married to for 43 wonderful years. Liz was a member of Sagemont Church for over 35 years in which she lovingly taught 5th grade Sunday school with Kent.

Liz lost her courageous battle with cancer Christmas Eve, December 24, 2017 with her loving husband and children by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents Doyle and Joyce Wilkinson.

Liz’s idea of a good time was being with her family. Though she was a quiet, stoic soul, she was a full of wit and a sparkling joy to her loved ones. She enjoyed family vacations, roller coasters, playing board games and laughing at the wildness that ensued at family gatherings.

Starting in 1999, when she became a grandmother for the first time, until her last day, her grandchildren were her life’s delight. They spanned two decades, initially with seven grandsons and finally getting two granddaughters in 2015.

Liz always smiled and never complained.  She would just purse her lips or raise an eyebrow in response to life’s messes, a trait that endeared her to her loving coworkers, patients, friends and family.

Liz is survived by her husband Kent Johnson, brother James (Ginger) Wilkinson, Martha Wilkinson, children Katrina (Mario), Kari (Robert), Kyle (Amanda), and Kasi (Josh); grandchildren Mario, Kynes, Kayson, Keen, Kade, Kylin, Kenner, Kentley and Kurie and many nieces and nephews and family.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017, at Sagemont Church in Houston, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private entombment will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, 600 SW 11th Ave., Amarillo TX 79101.
