Joan Reilly Townshend


Joan Reilly Townshend, 84, of Pasadena, Texas went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Reilly and Doris Peterson.  At the age of 5, Joan was adopted by her uncle and aunt, Robert and Betty Peterson.

While growing up in New Cristobal, Panama Canal Zone, she had a horse named King and a dog named Mickey.  After graduating from high school, Joan went to college in Jamestown, New York and received a Nursing Degree.  This was followed by marriage to John Townshend.

As a Registered Nurse, she served for over 50 years.  During much of that time, Joan worked at Pasadena

General Hospital as a supervisor for the care of up to 300 patients at a time.  Her kindness, passion, dedication and commitment was a priority for the sick and injured. She expected the same characteristics to be displayed by her staff.  Joan was loved and respected among peers.

As a mother, she could be tough but also very loving, affectionate and giving.  This was not limited to family. It was also evident toward the dogs, cats, birds and strays she cared for through the years.

During her life, she liked camping, enjoyed gardening, travelled many places and loved family gatherings.

Joan is survived by 3 children: Jeff Townshend and his wife, Barbara, of Odessa, Texas; Lori DaSilva and her husband, David, of Pasadena, Texas and Randy Townshend and his wife, Christi, of Ada, Oklahoma; a grandson, Jason Kocian and his wife, Lauren, of Pearland, Texas; and a step-grandson, Cody Light and his wife, Lindsey, of Angleton, Texas; and 5 great grandchildren.  Joan is also survived by a sister, Anne Hazard of Maine.

The memorial service will be at 10:00am., Friday, December 29, at Niday Fairmont Funeral Home, 6777 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas.
