R.L. Clay went to be with his Lord Friday, November 6, 2009 at the age of 85 years.  R.L. was born May 28, 1924 in Van Zandt County, Texas to the late Ed Clay and Retha Swain Petty.

R.L. graduated from Brownfield High School and Tyler Commercial College.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, 78th Fighter Group – 8th Air Force, in World War II.  R.L. retired from NASA and he was a faithful member of Sagemont Church.

R.L. is survived by a loving family; his wife of 60 years, Frances Murphy Clay; sons, Mark Clay and Robert Clay and his wife, Ruth; three granddaughters, Ashley, Brittany, and Morgan; his sister, Mildred Wilson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, as well as a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, November 8, 2009, at Niday Funeral Home.  A service celebrating R.L.’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 9, 2009, in the chapel of Niday Funeral Home with Dr. John Morgan and Rev. Emory Gadd, officiating.  Graveside services and interment will follow at 4:00 PM, at Liberty Hill Cemetery, in San Augustine, Texas.
