Euger Smith Jr.

Euger Smith, Jr., known to friends as “Smitty” or “Junior” passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the age of 88. Born June 21, 1929 in Estherwood, Louisiana, to Euger Smith, Sr. and Uranie Mary (Menard) Smith. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; Junior will be missed by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Smith, daughter Kathy Smith, two sons Patrick and Kenneth Smith, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Uncle Junior or Smitty will be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

A proud Cajun, Junior grew up in the small country town of Morse, Louisiana along with his eight brothers and sisters. In his early life he enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in the rice fields, tending cattle and doing a Cajun two step at the area dance halls. Junior loved playing fast pitch softball and was an ace pitcher, known for striking batters out and once pitched a no-hitter. He was a true Astros fan with his favorite player being Jose Altuve.

He devoted 60 years of committed service to the Insulators and Allied Workers, Local 22 Union and was, towards the end of his career, an active participant in their retiree group and scholarship fund. Likewise, he dedicated thirty years of active service to the Knights of Columbus, Council #4577

The family will receive friends Friday, February 2, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, with a rosary being prayed at 7:00pm. The funeral service, honoring his life, will be held Saturday, February 3, at 10:00am, all held at Niday Funeral Home – Beamer Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery,  223 Cemetery Road, Winnie, Texas.
