Aileen Marian C. Schaefer passed away peacefully from this life after a gradual decline of health in the early morning of Monday, February 5, 2018, surrounded by her family.

Aileen was born and raised in Lott, Texas to Oners and Linda Curry. She was the second of five children; James, Cecil, Leonard, and Donald Curry. While attending nursing school in Waco, Texas, Aileen met the love of her life, Clarence A. Schaefer. After two years of courting, spending many Saturday nights at the dance halls, dancing to the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, the two wed on April 19, 1951 in Houston, TX in a civil service. In 1960, they welcomed their son, Gregory P. Schaefer, and were married for 20 wonderful years. In 1962, Aileen received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Sacred Heart Dominican College and enjoyed 35 successful years of nursing working at a VA hospital tending to our veterans.

Aileen was faithful to her Catholic religion, and enjoyed attending church every Sunday. She especially looked forward to Mother’s Day or any other special holiday that fell on Sunday, when her son Greg would bring her a pink corsage to wear to church. Aileen’s hobbies included tending to her roses or vegetable garden, going on cruises and travelling the world, shopping at Macy’s and always finding a great deal, going to lunch with her friends, and visiting with her “Caribbean Friends” that have been by her side for over 50 years. Perhaps, her truest joy was the love that she had for her family. All were so very special and dear to her, but her son, grandchildren, and her sweet great-grandchildren, were the center of her world. Not a day would go by without talking to them or in many cases, needlessly worrying about them. She was a true example of light, love, and service, and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Aileen is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, parents; Oners and Linda Curry, and her brothers; James, Leonard, and Cecil Curry.

Her life will be forever cherished in the lives of her son, Greg Schaefer and wife Carolyn of Pasadena, TX; granddaughter, Jennifer (Schaefer) Young and husband Tyson and their children, Tyson Jr., Trenton, and Taliah, currently living overseas; granddaughter, Kristen (Schaefer) Langdon and husband Sheldon and their children, Oliver, Ellie, and Emery of Sugarland, TX; granddaughter Mary Beth Goss and husband Avery and their son, Lane of Pasadena, TX. She is also survived by her brother Donald Curry and his wife Rose, and many loved nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 8, 2018, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with the rosary and vigil starting at 6:00pm at Niday Funeral Home – Beamer Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday, February 9, 2018, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 11011 Hall Road, Houston 77089. Rite of Committal will follow at South Park Cemetery in Pearland.
