Shirley Jolene Cain of League City, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the age of 90.  She was born February 14, 1928 to Norman W. and Rillia Jared in Marion County, Indiana.  She grew up on a dairy farm near Indianapolis and learned a proper work ethic by watching her mom and dad as they worked to provide for the family.  While in the Plainfield School District, Shirley met the one and only love of her life, Daniel Bruce Cain.  Daniel was a prankster who won Shirley’s heart and since the two had a like-minded work ethic, they were the epitome of a match made in heaven celebrating seventy years of marriage in August 2016.

In 1962, Daniel and Shirley with their three children, Sheila, Mark and Angela relocated to the city of Houston.  Revealing the work ethic she learned on the dairy farm, Shirley excelled in the medical field in the area of office management.  She developed a great love for the numerous doctors and nurses that she served throughout her career in the medical field and retired with over thirty years office management in 1992.

According to Shirley, nothing was more precious to her than her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved and accepted every child as uniquely created by God and entrusted to her family for the express purpose of being a “NANA” who always showered each with unconditional love, respect and dignity.  Family gatherings were the hallmark of the Cain Clan and we have all benefited from her kind affection and unwavering devotion.

Daniel and Shirley were long-time members of the First Christian Church serving together in numerous locations such as Pasadena, TX, Spring, TX, Guymon, OK, and Mineola, TX. Shirley served on numerous church committees including several Pastor Search Committees.  She was also actively involved in several civic and community service organizations.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of seventy years, Daniel and all but one remaining sibling, Jane Hayden.  Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sheila Rhodes and husband, Larry, her son Mark Cain and wife Inga, her daughter Angela Autrey and husband Denny; grandchildren Jennifer Bajorek, Shelly Niemand, Greg Rhodes, Mike Rhodes, Ashley Bagwell, Vanessa Patterson, Rachel Estrada, Jared Cain, Nathan Cain, Kathleen Cain, Amber Stovall, Julie Welch, and Haley St. John; twenty great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a multitude of dear friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, March 30, 2018, at Niday Funeral Home – Beamer Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
