Ransom Stickland (R.S.) Bill, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully February 23, 2011. Ransom is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marie Juanelle Bill; sister Patricia Linsicombe; son, Edwin Bill and wife Suzie, daughters, Diana Jordan and husband James, Barbara Daniel and husband Philip, Denise Dailey and husband Earl; grandchildren Michael Wilkinson and wife Estela, Jole Link and husband Danny, Brad Bill, Greg Bill and wife Tina, Jeff Daniel and wife Laura, Valerie Daniel, Phillip and Alex Dailey; great-grandchildren Sabryna Saenz; Anthony, Brandon, Nataly Bill; Levi, Koltin, Hannah Link; Dylan and Elias Daniel.
Ransom devoted his life to public service by founding the Volunteer Mercy Corps, providing free, comprehensive emergency medical treatment; rescue, disaster relief, air, water, and ground ambulance service to Houston and surrounding areas with a team of volunteers. The Volunteer Mercy Corps operations were supported for over 25 years by the generosity of the Parker Bros. and Rose Trucking companies in Houston.
During his tenure with the Volunteer Mercy Corps, Ransom was awarded the National Good Samaritan Award, the American Gold Medal of Honor, the Jefferson Award, and the Carnegie Medal of Heroism. He successfully promoted ambulance legislation and included community, city, and state leaders in his boundless circle of friends.
Ransom was a devoted, caring husband, father, and grandfather. He counted his family and friends as his true life blessings. He lived life fully, and his passions included steam engine trains, country music, RV travel, and camping with his family. He meant the world to those who loved him.
We express sincere gratitude and ask that God bless each of the staff members at the VA Medical Center extended care center who attended Ransom with compassion and care.
He was a lifelong member of Park Place Baptist Church, 4101 Broadway Blvd., Houston 77087, where services will be held Saturday, February 26th, at 1:00pm, preceded by visitation Friday, February 25th, at Niday Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ransom’s name may be made to Park Place Baptist Church.
