Batiest “Bat” Oggero, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the age of 91. Bat was born on March 14, 1920 in Houston to William “Nick” and Mary Mandola Oggero. He is preceded in death by his beloved son Nicholas Joseph Oggero and the love of his life for 70 years Bernice Lucille Oggero.
Bat was a veteran of World War II, having entered the US Army October 20, 1943 until February 4, 1946. He was a proud soldier who served on the staff of General Eisenhower and a survivor of the invasion of Normandy. He never forgot the nightmare and experience of his fellow soldiers that did not survive. He was known to his fellow soldiers as “Tex”. In his service to the Army, Bat was awarded the Good Conduct Medal as well as the Bronze Star.
Bat is survived by his son Bill Oggero and wife Valerie; his grandchildren Kimberly Mingarelli and husband Ross, Bat Oggero and wife Dawn; his great-grandchildren Nicole Mingarell, Lauren and Vincent Oggero.
His family and friends will miss him dearly but will hold onto their memories and have peace knowing he had such a full and wonderful life.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 17th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm with a Rosary prayed at 7:00pm at Niday Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 18th, at 10:00am at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Pearland. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Park Lawndale.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials in Batiest’s name to be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 12929 Gulf Freeway, Suite 300, Houston, 77034.
