Mattie Elizabeth Priest
Mattie Elizabeth Priest, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2011.
Mattie was born on November 2, 1920 in Houston, to Eula and Montford Elliott. She grew up in the Heights and Victoria, Texas, and was a longtime member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church.
Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, sister Jerrie VonCannon and her beloved husband Denver Priest. She is survived by five children: sons, Marvin Priest and wife Cindy of Iowa Colony, Mark Priest of Alvin, Patrick Priest and wife JoAnn of Houston, Greg Priest and wife Diana of Houston, and daughter Dayna Gleeson and husband Jerry of Pearland. Mattie has 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Mattie loved each and every one of her children and grandchildren with a deep passion.
Visitation is Tuesday, January 3rd, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00pm at Niday Funeral Home on Beamer Road. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm Wednesday, January 4th, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 6502 County Road 48, in Manvel, 77578. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery in Pearland.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mattie’s name may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, 10114 Highway 6, Hitchcock TX 77563.
