Wilma Caroline Thomas Bright Morrison suffered a cardiac arrest after a two week hospital stay battling kidney disease on April 14, 2012 at the age of 70.  The angelic choir increased by one and she is now playing for her Lord in Heaven.

Wilma was born the middle of three girls to Theodore “Ray” and Aleene Moore Thomas in Cushing Oklahoma on Dec. 4, 1941. Her eldest sister Lenora Linduff and her younger sister Ilona Snell still reside in Oklahoma. She learned her life’s passion at an early age and played the piano for school and church functions as a teen. She moved to Texas “as soon as she could” and worked with the Salvation Army. There she met her husband of 32 years, Benjamin Joseph Bright Sr., who preceded her in death in April 1996.  During that union they had two sons, Benjamin Joseph Bright Jr. (wife Kimberly Fugate and children Nicholas and Violette) and Paul Thomas Bright (wife Heather Matheny and son Zachary).

Wilma’s bookkeeping career and amazing musical talents led her to join the Bay Area Gospel Music Association, where she held the title of Secretary for the past 22 yrs. She was also the editor of the “Trumpet”, a published newspaper for BAGMA. Through the years she has entertained thousands by playing the piano and organ for church services, performing with groups and singers in concerts and playing for outreach ministries at nursing homes and correctional facilities. Currently she was the pianist for Airline Manor Baptist Church, as well as the keyboard player for the groups Crossing Jordan, Sweet Sounds and Doss Pickers.

On April 4th, 2008, her family was further extended by the marriage to Myron “Hotdog” Morrison, a long-time resident of Houston. Together they lifted the spirits of anyone they encountered through music and laughs. Wilma will be greatly missed by those whose lives’ she touched.

“The measure of a life, after all, is not its duration… but its donation.”     ̴ Corrie Ten Boom

A visitation will be held Saturday, April 21 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Niday Funeral Home on Beamer Road in Houston.  Following the visitation, Wilma’s funeral service will begin at 1:00pm, also at Niday Funeral Home.  Interment will take place at 12pm on Tuesday, April 24, at the Houston National Cemetery.
