Betty Joyce Baxter
Betty Joyce Baxter went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 16, 2012. Betty was born on January 9, 1929 to Lillie Gertrude and William Benjamin Stevens. She was one of seven siblings. Betty graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, Houston. Betty and O.R. Baxter were married on August 28, 1958.
As a long time member of Garden Road Baptist Church, she loved and cherished her church family.
A resident of Pearland since the early 70’s, Betty enjoyed socializing with her many friends at the Knapp Senior Center. Her favorite things in life were being “Nana”, family get-togethers, card games, bunco, crocheting, reading and casino trips.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, O.R. Baxter; her parents; sisters, Cora Lee and Shirley; brothers, Ralph, Buddy and Gerald (BoBo). Betty is survived by her daughter Lee Ann Urquhart and husband Mitchell; grandson, Charles Baxter Urquhart; brother, Bobby Stevens, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Garden Road Baptist Church in Pearland, or Houston Hospice.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 19th, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, and the Funeral Service celebrating Betty’s life will be Wednesday, June 20th, at 10:00am, all held at Niday Funeral Home-Beamer Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
