Charles Bailey Simpson Jr. passed away at home peacefully in the presence of his family and friends June 21, 2012. Born September 5, 1945 in Sallis, MS his family later moved to Belzoni, MS where he attended grade school and graduated from high school. Charles is survived by his gracious loving wife of 47 years, Kay Thompson Simpson and their two children Cindy Simpson Case and husband Allen H. Case, and Charles “Bailey” Simpson III and wife Shelley Austin Simpson.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Charles Bailey Simpson and Olivia Burnley Simpson. He is also survived by his 3 siblings Nancy Umphers, John Simpson and wife Frances, Shirley Burroff and husband Neal, several other family members, and many cherished friends.
Upon graduating from Delta State University in Cleveland MS in 1968 he relocated his family to Houston, TX where he began a career in the print publishing industry working with the Houston Post and then PennWell Publishing. After many years he and his wife relocated back to Sallis, MS establishing a beautiful residence on the family farm land and began a new business venture operating a Val-Pak printing franchise. After 13 years of dedication to their farm hobby and successful business venture in 2004 Charles relocated he and his wife again back to Houston, TX to be close to their children. He and his wife continued their careers in Houston with The Houston Chronicle.
Charles was devoted to his wife and family and was a great friend to many. He had a compassionate nature and was committed to the Lord spending his personal time involved in his church and community, Bible Study Fellowship, and Gideon International. Charles was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2005 and the prognosis was not good, but he appealed to a higher authority and was granted reprieve. Never complaining or asking why he fought a courageous battle and said he was living on “bonus time”, always knowing the importance of using this time to do the Lord’s work.
The family is giving special thanks to the many dear friends and family who showed their love of God and for Charles through their tremendous support and encouragement over the last 7 years, which sustained Charles through many challenging times. The family especially thanks Robert Wolff, MD of MD Anderson Cancer Center for his exceptional care and treatment.
The family will receive visitors Sunday, June 24th, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Niday Funeral Home – Beamer Chapel. The service celebrating Charles’ life will be held at 10:00am Monday, June 25th, at Sagemont Church, 11300 S. Sam Houston Pkwy. East, Houston 77089. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
There will be a reception in celebration of his life from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Club BellaVita, 1548 N. Riviera Circle in Pearland.
