Jim Watson passed away peacefully September 10, 2012. He was born in Sargent, Texas on October 19, 1933.
Jim had a love for both sports and education. After graduating from Bay City High School , Jim went on to play football for the University of Texas, where he earned his degree in Education. Jim served as a teacher and a coach for several high schools including, Aldine, Alvin, and Jones. He also coached football and baseball for Wharton Jr. College. Later, he became principal at Ball High School in Galveston for 10 years before finally moving to Pearland, where he spent 18 years serving as both high school principal and school board member.
Jim was a loving husband, father, “papa”, and friend. He had a love for golf and southern gospel music. He leaves behind wonderful memories of his warmth and compassion for others. He enjoyed surprising others with his quick wit and sense of humor.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Kaye. He is survived by his sister, Billie Legg, his son, Greg Watson and his wife Kelly, and his daughter Kyle Gibson and her husband Greg; his five grandchildren, Randi, Haley, Garrett, Savannah, and Chloe.
Friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Niday Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am Thursday, September 13, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Pearland with Rev. Sonny Steed officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all expressions of sympathy be sent in his name to Down Syndrome Association of Houston.
