Jack and Pat Niday

Jack & Pat NidayJohn B. “Jack” Niday, Jr. is a native Houstonian having grown up and lived in southeast Houston all of his life.  By profession a ship pilot, Jack began an ambulance service in 1959 to occupy his off time which soon grew to be the largest ambulance service in the area.  In 1961 he opened the first Niday Funeral Home in conjunction with the ambulance service.  The Houston Fire Department took over ambulance services for the city in the early 60’s and he withdrew from the ambulance business, donating a fully equipped ambulance to the City of Pearland.  Jack then concentrated on the funeral homes, at one point owning seven homes and three cemeteries in the Houston and Pearland area while still continuing as a ship pilot.  He retired as a ship pilot in 1985 after having served as president of the Houston Pilot Association for 7 terms and the Texas Pilot Association for 4 terms.
